OTS 20th Anniversary Video Print

On the 25th February 2012 Out To Swim celebrated its 20th year of activity with a gala ball and dinner at the Russel Hotel. The video that was shown at the event is now available for viewing (on the left). It is a celebration of what OTS is, what it stands for, and how it can and has changed people's lives. A great way of celerating the 20 years of this amazing organisation and all of the people that are a part of it.

Thanks to all of you who have contributed photos or audio for the video. And thanks to Daniel Morgan for putting it together...

Victorious at Tooting Bec! Print

altThis was the 60th year that the South London Swimming Club have hosted their Spring Invitational competition at Tooting Bec Lido.

At last year's meet, OTS managed a very respectable second, so there was a strong turn-out from our Open Water crew and supporters determined to at least match that result.

Competing against teams from across London, braving the 8.5 degree water were a team of 14 hard-core OTSers: Clinton P, Bill H, Bob M, Shih-Ming Y, Rob J, Paul S, Alastair B, Chiara A, Chris C, Martin B, Lee K, Mike G, Simone C and Emma B.

Thankfully things moved pretty quickly and all 16 races were soon swum and done.

Once again, the race commentator was comedy gold - drawing attention to Ming's "brief-ettes" (ie. normal-sized water polo trunks) and querying whether we actually had any women swimming in the team - errr yeah, we've got three and they totally rock!

The comp works on team points awarded based on results in each race.  The big news is that OTS won!!!  A fantastic effort by everyone swimming and well celebrated with the traditional sharing of baked goods (Mike G's bahamian rum cake is lethal).

We are definitely going to be back next year to defend our title!

Check out the Open Water pages on our website for more information and updates.

Upstream Amsterdam Valentine meet 2012 Print

altIt may have been freezing in Amsterdam but we had a very warm weekend full of great swimming and friendship. 10 OTS swimmers comprising David D, Ian O, Paul S, Simon R, Thibault, Dermot, Marco, Lizzie, Lucille and Martin S ventured to the frozen city.

The welcome drinks was held at the very local swimming pool where Upstream had put on some warm up/training for any swimmers for the competition the next day. Needless to say not one OTS swimmer got wet on Friday night! Think the excuse was to save energy, drink lots of fluid oh and to carb up - with a big plate of lasagne!

Marco and Thibault were competition virgins; David and Martin have a very special connection with this meet; lots of us met Simon for the first time and Ian O wanted to win lots of medals!

We had a great day of swimming with some fantastic strong swims and many many PBs.  We all celebrated our day at the after party which was enjoyed by all. This is such a friendly and sociable meet and one that is suitable for both those that are new to competitions and those who have been competing forever and a day!  Next year the Valentine meet will be held in Vienna and the in 2014 back in Amsterdam.

K2 was no mountain to climb for OTS Print

DAY 1 - Sat 28th Jan

A magnificent turn out to Crawley from OTS for the first competition of the year and we have set a very high standard to follow.

The team consisted of: Ian W, Clinton, Martin B, Paul S, Pascal, Lizzie, Lucille, Alessandro, Phil G, Steph and Kate we were also supported by Kath and Raymondo.

Ian was deputised to organise us all so arrived with his clipboard, highlighter and pen; but more importantly with a large box of milk and white chocolate cookies (YUM!).

So onto the swimming - we hauled the medals in:  6 gold, 5 sliver, 5 bronze individual medals and a silver and bronze medals for our 2 relay teams. Highlights were the head to head with Martin and Ian in the 400 free and Pascal going sub 30 for his 50 free, yeeharr!

OTS also set the standard for team work and support, a few of us hadn't been training as much as we'd liked for various reasons but we all cheered each other on and swam as best we could. We had our own medal ceremonies(this will now become a tradition) the only issue was a complaint raised by lady chair about the stubble rash caused by kissing the male members of the team!

A fabulous day out and it is very apt we have a heart for our team logo!

Day 2 - Sun 29th Jan

David D-M was the lone OTS representative for OTS on Sunday but he must have felt our vibe as he went on to collect a gold and bronze medal, well done David we will give you the OTS medal ceremony treatment on poolside this week!
